fix: don't log the access token on stream errors - #58
Conversation
repr(aiohttp.ClientResponseError) includes the request headers, so the "Client error" and "Authentication failed" log lines contained "Authorization: Bearer <token>". Log the exception type and str(error) instead, which keeps the status, message and URL.

1-202: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAssert the 401 log retains its status and message.
The 401 authentication branch and the 502 retry branch use separate log messages. The 401 check only requires the authentication-failure prefix, so it can pass if that log loses
401andUnauthorized. Add an assertion for both values in the authentication-failure record.🐛 Suggested fix

189-202: 🔒 Security & Privacy | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winTest the pre-connect warning with a token-bearing callback error.
The 401 test reaches
listen()’s warning with aTeslemetryStreamAuthenticationError, so changing that warning back torepr(error)would not reveal the token. The 502 test stays in__anext__()’s retry handler. But if a caller-supplied connection callback raises a token-bearingClientResponseErrorduring_connection_failed()before the first connection, that error escapes to the warning. Add this case tomain()and assert the captured logs omit the token.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

The 401 test now also checks the log keeps the status and message, and a new test reaches the "ended before its first connect" warning with a token-bearing error (it fails if that line goes back to repr).

repr()of anaiohttp.ClientResponseErrorincludes itsRequestInfo, and that includes the request headers. SoLOGGER.warning("Client error: %s", repr(error))writesAuthorization: Bearer <token>straight into the log.In Home Assistant this fires on any non-auth HTTP error from the SSE endpoint. I get a
400 Bad Requesta few times a day, so the token was sitting in my HA log and in everything that ships or backs up that log. This logs
<ExceptionType>: <str(error)>instead. For aiohttp errors,str()still gives the status, message and URL, just not the headers. It's changed in the four places that logged an exception's repr:Before:

tests/test_no_token_in_logs.pycovers the retry path (an HTTP 5xx error) and the 401 path, and checks that no log record contains the token. It fails on the current code. ruff, mypy and the existing tests pass.Need help on this PR? Tag
